Don't worry, try one of these

Why do we love this wine?

Coal River Valley pinot noir from one of Tasmania's most quietly exciting vineyard addresses. Deep ruby in the glass, with an aromatic complexity that keeps unfolding the longer you sit with it - dark cherry, raspberry and rosehip on the nose, with toasty oak, subtle earthiness and a spice character that adds layers without ever overwhelming the fruit. The palate is silky and concentrated - ripe red and dark fruits unfolding across fine-grained, polished tannins with a lively acidity that carries a long, elegant finish of red fruit and spice that simply refuses to quit. Drink it now alongside duck or lamb and be thoroughly delighted, or hold it through to 2031 and watch it develop into something new and even more complex.

Frequently Asked Questions

Coal River Valley is one of Tasmania's most promising cool-climate regions, offering the perfect conditions for elegant Pinot Noir production. The valley's unique microclimate, with its cool temperatures and extended growing season, allows Pinot Noir grapes to develop complex flavours while maintaining the variety's characteristic finesse. This particular vineyard site has quietly built a reputation among wine insiders for producing Pinot Noir with exceptional aromatic complexity and silky texture.

The 97-point rating reflects this wine's exceptional balance between power and elegance - a hallmark of world-class Pinot Noir. The aromatic complexity that continues evolving in the glass, combined with the silky concentration and fine-grained tannin structure, demonstrates masterful winemaking. Wine Orbit likely recognised how this wine captures the essence of cool-climate Pinot Noir while showing the unique terroir character that makes Tasmanian wines so distinctive on the global stage.

Serve this Pinot Noir slightly below room temperature, around 14-16°C, to showcase its aromatic complexity and silky texture. Decant it 30-60 minutes before serving to allow the layers of dark cherry, raspberry, and spice to fully express themselves. The wine's elegant structure makes it perfect for pairing with duck breast, lamb rack, or even salmon, where its lively acidity and polished tannins won't overpower the dish.

This wine offers the best of both worlds - it's absolutely delicious now but has the structure to evolve beautifully until 2031. The fine-grained tannins and lively acidity provide the backbone for extended cellaring, while the concentrated fruit and toasty oak integration suggest it will develop greater complexity over time. If you're patient, expect the wine to show more earthy, savoury notes and even silkier texture as it matures.

The 'Black Market Deal' designation indicates this is a special allocation wine offered at an exceptional price point, likely well below its usual retail value. These deals often feature wines from prestigious producers or highly-rated vintages that are being offered exclusively through select channels. Given the 97-point rating and the quality reputation of Coal River Valley Pinot Noir, this represents significant value for a wine of this calibre.
