Why do we love this case?

The Lucky Dip Case is back! The first time we did this, we broke the internet. This time we’ve bubble-wrapped the servers because they’re in for another beating.

Every case contains the same eleven wicked wines, including some of our absolute faves here at the ‘fo. More info on them below, and they’re all good things. All mofo standard - i.e. nothing we haven’t enjoyed ourselves.

Then there’s the added excitement of seeing which one of these world-beater wines you will receive as your twelfth.

The twelfth wine is the wildcard and could be any one of these:

An iconic Penfolds Grange 2021 - worth $1000 - (1 in 100 chance)

Ivyburn Pioneer Shiraz 2021 - worth $330 - (1 in 25 chance)

Archery Road Bullseye Shiraz 2021 - worth $150 - (1 in 10 chance)

Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2023 - worth $50 - (at a minimum!)

Each box contains one of these epic wines. The odds vary per wine, but each one is a centrepiece wine, worthy of some truly special occasions.

We should say up front: there are no returns on this - click here for case terms and conditions. As it’s a Lucky Dip, it would be unfair to other mofos running in the draw.

The easiest way to guarantee to get a bottle of Grange is to go out and buy one for yourself. If you, like me, don’t have $1000 handy, this is definitely your best (and cheapest) option! Heard enough already? Pop that case in the cart and cross your fingers and toes! Otherwise, read on for a bit more info on all those lovely wines:

2x Merite The Caves Cabernet Sauvignon 2024

Red — Cabernet Sauvignon

Wrattonbully — Australia

If you're a fan of Coonawarra cabernet in the slightest, you're going to absolutely love this wine. This was built to honour the climate and terroir of one of Australia's most-highly-rated cabernet regions – Wrattonbully (riiiight next to Coonawarra). Be warned: This is not for the faint of heart... Specifically crafted to showcase the 'Cavelands' sub-region with its layers of Terra Rossa soils, limestone caves, pristine waters and maritime climate that makes this place so bloody special. Big, bold, full-bodied and loaded with dark fruits and the expected 'green' notes that make this variety what it is. This is an intense, fruit-driven beast with abundant juicy fruit flavours and a rich palate that doesn't mess around. All of this frivolity is kept in check by a classic cabernet structure, beautiful acid, fantastic tannin and that minty, eaucalypty goodness that us cab lovers crave so much!

You'd pay $45 full price.

2x Serafino Wines Goose Island Shiraz 2022

Red — Shiraz

McLaren Vale — Australia

This shiraz genuinely punches well above its weight - especially when you take into account the name on the label - delivering quality and complexity you'd expect from wines commanding significantly higher prices. It's got power, finesse and approachability, meaning you can geek out analysing all the layers or just pour generously and enjoy without overthinking. Vibrant, polished McLaren Vale shiraz crafted with estate-grown fruit sourced from two of this producer's most famous vineyards. 9 months in seasoned American (70%) and French (30%) oak brings a bit of grunt whilst retaining fruit purity. Ripe dark plum and spice aromas leading to a generous, structured palate - juicy black fruit, subtle peppery notes, a plush texture and fine supple tannins stretching to lingering finish. Store or pour - up to you - this one will be sitting pretty from now until 2030 at least!

You'd pay $18 full price.

Wild Card Wine #1

Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2021

South Australia

99pts Halliday Wine Companion | 99pts The Australian | 100pts Ken Gargett | 97pts Campbell Mattinson | 4.3 Vivino (All Vintages)

Grange is synonymous with excellence and prestige in the global wine lexicon. It is, with barely another runner in the race, our nation's leading lady – the zenith, the be-all, the end-all, the one-and-only. There is no moment too grand that won't be elevated – and appropriately celebrated – with Grange.

"Quite simply, a wow wine. Maroon/black in hue, one simply gets lost in the nose, just endlessly sniffing the most glorious cassis notes, along with black fruits, blueberries, coffee beans, aniseed, mulberries, delicatessen meats, tobacco leaves, plums and graphite. The wine is seamless, intense and immaculate with knife-edge balance. It simply dances with joy. There oak is there, undeniably, but it is so well handled that you almost have to think twice. So complex already, and yet so harmonious and decadent. Silky tannins, bright acidity, the intensity never wavers for an instant and there is incredible length — Rutherglen muscat length. This is as close to a perfect Grange as I can imagine. Fifty years, if you think you can last that long. A Lord-take-me-now wine, if ever there was one. 100 Points." - Ken Gargett

Wild Card Wine #2

Ivyburn Pioneer Shiraz 2021

McLaren Vale, SA

97pts Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot | 97pts Wine Orbit | 96pts The Vintage Journal | 95pts Wine Pilot | Five Stars Wine Orbit | Old Vine | Killer Vintage

A wine that consistently inspires almost indecent enthusiasm from all that pop the cork. These pioneer planted shiraz vines in the revered Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale have been hand-tendered continuously and painstakingly watched over since their planting. The result is a wine showing complexity, structure and intensity of flavour that is utterly unique to the vineyard and seldom seen anywhere else in the world. Rich, concentrated, dark red fruits and abundant ripe tannins are seamlessly integrated into spicy, perfumed oak to create a structural, but heavily fruit-weighted wine that will steal the spotlight and create memories from now until 2035 (at least).

YOU’D PAY $330 full price

Archery Road Bullseye Shiraz 2021

Barossa Valley, SA

97pts Wine Orbit | 4.2 Vivino (All Vintages) | 96pts Wine Pilot | 96pts VinoMasters | Killer Vintage | Five Stars Wine Orbit | Mofo Fave Producer

Time to get out the ticker-tape parade. A Vinomofo Hero has returned! This rich Barossan style looks all the better with a few years of age, and is ready to knock some socks off. A region defining vintage of an already super well-regarded wine. Here is one show-stopping, chart-topping shiraz that’s ready and roaring. While this is drinking perfectly now, do be warned - it’s quite the blockbuster! Handcrafted from the finest grapes on the vine Barossa vineyard, this has what we look for in these wines, with a rich, full-body and aromas that lift with oaky spices and dense ripe blackberries. All of course, handled beautifully with high quality oak and supporting fine tannins. A blockbuster with a really great plot and a finish worthy of an M. Night Shyamalan flick.

YOU’D PAY $150 full price

Wild Card Wine #4

Lou Miranda Estate Golden Lion Shiraz 2022

Barossa Valley, SA

95pts Wine Orbit | 4.0 Vivino (All Vintages) | Mofo Fave | Women in Wine | Killer Vintage | Dangerous Value

In the glass, the colour is a deep crimson red and there’s lifted aromas of plum, pepper, vanilla and dark chocolate. The palate is full and generous with dark fruits, interwoven spice and savoury tannins. With Angela Miranda at the helm of the winemaking, this is one well made wine. There's a good dose of American oak in the ageing regime on this, adding a touch of coconut and further vanilla to the wine. It’s ready to go with a big ole’ steak right now or will happily nap in your cellar for 15 years. This big boy is here for you now and in the future..
